Studies say overweight people have lost 35-52 pounds on a newly approved diabetes drug

“Almost 40% of individuals have lost a quarter of their weight,” said co-author Dr. Ania Justrebov, co-director of the Yale University Weight Management Center, in a media briefing.

“The data were very impressive,” said Dr. Robert Gabey, Chief Medical Officer of the American Diabetes Association. He spoke to CNN from ADA’s 82nd Scientific Session in New Orleans, where the findings were published.

“The weight loss they gained in this study was even greater than that seen in previous studies of diabetics,” said Gabey, who was not involved in the study.

The most common side effects reported were nausea, diarrhea and constipation. 2.6% to 7.1% of participants discontinued treatment due to adverse events.

“Obesity needs to be treated like any other chronic disease. With an effective and safe approach to (the cause of) the underlying disorder … and these results are possible that tilzepatide does exactly that. “We emphasize that we have sex,” said Justrebov of the Yale University Weight Management Center in an American news release from the Diabetes Association.
