What is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome?

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal disorder in women. A study by the All-Indian Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) has shown that about 20-25% of women of reproductive age have PCOS in India. Unlike what the name suggests, when this disorder is present, the ovaries of the ovaries do not have cysts. If you have two of the three major features of PCOS, you have a fault. The three functions are:

  • Irregular: This means that the ovulation cycle is irregular.
  • Polycystic ovary: When the ovaries are enlarged and have a cyst-like fluid-filled sac inside.
  • Excessive androgens: If you have high levels of androgens, also called male hormones.
