Rural people are more likely to die from preventable causes: CDC

Americans living in rural counties are more likely to die A new study from the CDC suggests there are more preventable causes than in people living in urban areas.

The CDC study found that rural counties had increased mortality from cancer, heart disease, chronic lower respiratory disease, and stroke, and higher rates of preventable premature death, but decreased unintentional injuries.

The CDC calculated preventable premature deaths from the five leading causes of death for people under age 80 using mortality data from 2010 to 2022 from the National Vital Statistics System. Statistics were broken down by urban-rural classification and by public health region and state, including the District of Columbia.

Here are eight stats.

  1. Between 2010 and 2022, preventable premature deaths from heart disease increased in rural (9.5%) and small urban counties (9.1%) but decreased in most metropolitan counties ( -10.2%).
  2. Cancer deaths decreased in all county categories, with the largest declines in central metropolitan areas and surrounding metropolitan counties.
  3. Preventable premature deaths from unintentional injuries increased, with the largest increases in metropolitan center (147.5%) and metropolitan periphery (97.5%) counties.
  4. Preventable premature deaths from unintentional injuries also increased in urban and suburban counties, and the gap between urban and rural counties narrowed.
  5. Deaths from chronic lower respiratory diseases decreased in metropolitan counties and increased by 0.8% in rural counties.
  6. Stroke deaths decreased in all counties from 2010 to 2013, remained the same through 2019, and then increased in 2020.
  7. In 2020, deaths from unintentional injuries, heart disease, and stroke soared, while deaths from chronic lower respiratory diseases and cancer decreased.
  8. Rates of preventable premature death were higher in rural counties for the top five leading causes of death.

View photos The advantages of comparing online car insurance quotes are the following: Online quotes can be obtained from anywhere and at any time. Unlike physical insurance agencies, websites don't have a specific schedule and they are available at any time. Drivers that have busy working schedules, can compare quotes from anywhere and at any time, even at midnight. Multiple choices. Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily. Although drivers are recommended to not choose a policy just based on its price, drivers can easily sort quotes by insurance price. Using brokerage websites will allow drivers to get quotes from multiple insurers, thus making the comparison faster and easier.
