Dr. Ramo says subjects experienced dangerous levels of oxygen saturation (a percentage of blood oxygen levels). “What they found was that subjects who fell asleep in a sleep lab after drinking two glasses of beer or two glasses of wine had their oxygen saturation drop to levels that are considered dangerous (about 85%),” Dr. Ramo said. “And these subjects were normal people.” If people didn't drink alcohol before going to sleep, the same percentage drop in oxygen saturation did not occur.
