A man in his 20s dies from a gland plague, causing a second deadly disease in a US state

Following a second recent case of deadly disease in New Mexico, a young man died of a gland plague.

The victim was 20 years old and died Friday after being taken to a local hospital in Rio Arriba County for treatment.

In June, a man in his 60s was diagnosed with this condition, but he recovered in hospital.

Health officials are currently investigating the homes and families of a young man who died of a rare infection.

It is not yet known how the pair fell ill.

Authorities say the two men lived more than 100 miles apart, and believe the incident is unlikely to be related.

“New Mexico plague activity is usually highest during the summer months, so rodents and their fleas could expose you to plague,” said New Mexico State Health Commissioner Kathy Kunkel. So it’s especially important to take precautions.”

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that there are 1,000 to 2,000 plague cases worldwide each year.

According to the WHO, approximately 30 percent and 100 percent of these cases have been fatal.

Gland plague is a bacterial disease spread by fleas that inhabit wild rodents such as marmots.

Patients then develop abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, and some people bleed from the mouth, nose, and rectum.

If you do not respond promptly, you will be killed within 24 hours.
