Coronavirus: Banam poultry staff test positive for Covid-19

An additional 39 staff tested positive for Covid-19 at the poultry farm.
300 workers of Banham poultry in Attleborough, Norfolk were tested after it was found that seven colleagues had the virus.
“This has a significant impact on workforce health and on Banam poultry as a business,” said Norfolk Director of Public Health.
Dr. Louise Smith said more results are expected.
Only staff working in one area of the factory were tested and a larger plant with 600 people was opened for production.
Although the factory takes measures to keep it away from the public, people who work closely in the production line are usually used.
Banam Poultry was asked to comment, working with the County Council’s Department of Health, and said to have been “working hard to ensure the health and safety of its staff.”
Dr. Smith said: “At this stage of the investigation, these cases are in staff working in Banham poultry and their families.
“There is no evidence of increased risk to the general public. The risk of infection from food is very low.”
The county public health director said she was also seeking expert advice from across the country.
“This allows us to quickly determine the next steps to prevent further infection by the virus.”
