Samuel Ward Academy in Haverhill, Suffolk closed the door after a positive incident and two more staff were waiting for results.

The school said in a statement that the closure was a “precautionary measure” and wanted it to reopen on Tuesday.

“The safety of our students and everyone at school is my number one priority,” said Andy Hunter.

“Obviously, this is a big disappointment after working hard to revive the school.

“I scrutinized the system I deployed to understand how the transmission occurred and to make sure that I did everything possible to limit the possibility that the same could happen again. I will.

“I’m very disappointed that the beginning of this semester has stopped.

“We have a very wide range of precautions.

“Last week, I was very pleased with the start of my term and the last two year group (Monday).

“But I received great support from Public Health England, Public Health Suffolk and the Suffolk County Council.

Anyone who was in close contact with the infected staff was contacted and asked to self-isolate for 14 days, the school said.
