Fifth Death, 176 Cases Associated with Millinocket Event – NECN

More than five weeks after the wedding reception in the countryside of Maine, people infected with the coronavirus have died retroactively.

On Monday, the Main Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported the death of a fourth resident of the Maple Crestry Rehabilitation Center in Madison. That person is the fifth person associated with the deceased wedding.

Overall, the August 7 wedding and reception at Millinocket’s Big Moose Inn and East Millinocket’s Tritown Baptist Church is associated with 176 COVID-19 cases.

Inspections in Maine found multiple safety breaches on various trips to the inn, eventually suspending the facility’s health license. They then returned to work.

One of the breaches is due to a location that exceeds the state’s capacity for indoor events during a pandemic. Maine’s COVID-19 safety regulations allowed only 50 people, but 65 attended the wedding.

The number of people infected with the COVID-19 outbreak associated with a wedding in Millinocket, Maine continued to grow, and another died.

At Madison on Monday, community members say the death of a loved one at Maple Crest is a “difficult” situation for the community to deal with.

Steve Austin, who has managed a Facebook page aimed at asking people in the Madison region for help in various ways during the COVID-19 pandemic, spices up spirits that have been in a difficult situation for weeks this Friday. He says he is planning a car parade near Maplecrest. ..

“In a small community like Madison, knowing that you love people who live or work in Maple Crest makes them worried,” he added in the parade. Austin said the center said, “They are not alone … they are not left there without their own support.”

A retest at the center revealed 11 more cases at Maplecrest, according to a Monday email from CDC spokesman Robert Long in Maine. Currently, the total number of cases at the facility is 39, with 24 residents and 15 staff testing positive for the virus.

Other large wedding-related outbreaks in York County Prison were over 70 as of last Thursday, but haven’t changed on Monday.

The car parade outside the Maple Cress Rehabilitation Center will meet in the area near the rear of the facility at 1:30 pm and will start at 2:00 pm.
