COVID-19 spreads shift to older people as outbreaks in long-term care facilities increase: Tam

Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer said the COVID-19 epidemic is shifting to older people, suggesting that the second wave could be hit as hard as the first. Is being added.

In a statement on Saturday, Dr. Teresa Tam said cases were concentrated in the summer between the ages of 20 and 39, but infection rates are now accelerating in the elderly.

Reports of outbreaks in long-term care centers and retirement homes have increased in recent weeks, but appear to be more contained than the eruptions of the incidents that overwhelmed several facilities in April and May.

Given the increased health risks that the virus poses to older Canadians, Tam said this is a nasty trend, and has already seen that the spread in long-term care facilities can have fatal consequences. I warned.

“We all have a common responsibility to protect the highest-risk people,” Tam said in a statement. “If the COVID-19 epidemic is kept at low levels in the community, this reduces the risk of exposure to older Canadians.”

Meanwhile, some of the hardest-hit states are scrambling to prevent such worst-case scenarios by introducing new restrictions to curb the surge in local hotspots.

Ontario reported 809 new cases on Saturday. This includes 358 in Toronto, 123 in the Peel region and 94 in Ottawa.

The numbers are coming on the first day of new state measures to curb a consistent increase in incidents in these areas, such as the closure of gyms, cinemas and casinos, and the suspension of indoor dining in bars and restaurants.

The government also reported seven new deaths associated with the virus. COVID-19 has hospitalized a total of 213 people in Ontario. Forty-seven people are in the intensive care unit and 29 are on ventilator.

The photos in Quebec, where an additional 1,097 new cases were reported on Saturday, were not very clean. This is the sixth day of the last seven times the state has surpassed 1,000 new cases.

Quebec also reported 14 additional deaths. The number of hospitalizations increased by 11 to 444, and another 6 received intensive care, for a total of 73.

Correspondingly, the state was set up on Saturday night to increase restrictions in almost every area along the St. Lawrence River between Montreal and Quebec City.

Bars, restaurant dining rooms and gyms in the so-called “red zone” need to be closed, sports are restricted, and individual citizens, with a few exceptions, are individuals with non-family members. I can’t get together at my house.

In Manitoba, health officials reported two deaths from COVID-19 and 97 new cases.

The state said in a daily pandemic update on Saturday that two women in Winnipeg (one in their 80s and one in their 90s) had died since the last update on Friday.

Public health officials also reminded people that residents of personal care homes are particularly vulnerable to COVID-19 and that Thanksgiving weekend visits need to be carefully planned.

Even the Atlantic bubbles seem to have been punctured by the second wave of the pandemic.

There were 20 new cases of COVID-19 in New Brunswick on Saturday, bringing the total number of active cases in the state to 57.

The state’s health director said 12 of the new cases were in the Moncton area and 7 were in the Campbellton area. Both regions remain at “orange” level limits under the state’s COVID-19 plan.

Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia each reported three new cases on Saturday.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published on October 10, 2020.

Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Online quotes will allow policyholders the chance to discover multiple insurance companies and check their prices. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless. Usually, insurance companies will do research about a potential customer before granting him coverage. Online quotes can be sorted easily.
