Providers Increase Flu Vaccinations To Avoid Double Pandemics
Influenza in a normal year can range from annoying to potentially fatal, with complications that may require hospital-level intervention. The event is co-organized with Sansum Clinic, Allan Hancock College, Medical Reserve Corps and Cottage Health. The Public Health Service has vaccinated about 4,000 people for this event.
The county hosted a free flu vaccination clinic each year before the pandemic, but spokesman Jackie Lewis said he hadn’t done anything on this scale so far. Previously, the Influenza Vaccination Clinic was a one-day event in the Goreta Valley that served about 1,000 people.
This year, the event spread throughout the county. There were two influenza vaccination clinics in Santa Barbara, two in Lompoc and two in Santa Maria, and there were also small events aimed at protecting the elderly in the county.
Influenza vaccinations are also provided free of charge in San Luis Obispo County. These events will take place on October 21st from noon to 5 pm in Arroyo Grande and Atascadero. There are no income or residence requirements, but events are on a first-come, first-served basis.
In Ventura County, the Public Health Service works with the Community Memorial Health System to provide influenza vaccinations throughout the county throughout the month. The clinic is open Saturdays from 9am to noon and you can stop by and take pictures without reservation.
