Massachusetts Health Authority Announces Record Number of New COVID-19 Cases – NECN
Massachusetts health officials announced a record number of new COVID-19 cases on Thursday for the second consecutive day.
The Public Health Service has announced the highest number of 6,477 new coronavirus cases in a day since the pandemic began. The ministry said the announcement was delayed due to a single laboratory that reported 680 cases before December 1.
But even without those 680 cases 4,613 new cases confirmed on Wednesday, Breaking the previous record.
Massachusetts also reported 49 deaths from the coronavirus.
According to DPH, 10,637 deaths and 232,264 cases are currently confirmed. Another 237 deaths are believed to be probably associated with COVID-19.
According to the report, the rate of positive coronavirus tests has increased to an average of 5.29%.
The number of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 has increased to 1,324. According to the DPH, 261 of them are in the intensive care unit and 137 are intubated.
Governor Charlie Baker said Tuesday that the first coronavirus vaccine could begin arriving in Massachusetts earlier this month, but it will take some time before it is widely distributed.
Initial doses may be reserved for front-line healthcare professionals, people over the age of 65 or with underlying health, and other essential workers.
