Herkimer County health officials reported 62 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 3,845.

Authorities also reported another coronavirus-related death on Saturday, bringing the total number of virus-related deaths in the county to 42. Authorities have reported one or two new deaths daily since January 8.

Currently, 1,143 cases are active and 61 are hospitalized. According to officials, 2,660 people have recovered. So far, 83,216 tests for the virus have returned negative.

The county has 1,520 residents participating in forced quarantine due to the virus, and recently 300 have been released. Officials reported that another 840 people were undergoing preventive quarantine.

Second death reported in midstate, with over 100 cases

A second coronavirus-related death was reported Thursday at Mercy’s mid-state correctional facility. State Correction Department and Community Supervision..

The latest data on state prisons released on Friday show a total of 102 confirmed cases at the facility, with 58 prisoners recovered. There are 103 pending coronavirus tests.
