Massachusetts coronavirus cases have increased by 5,657, with active cases estimated to be close to 100,000
With an estimated number of active cases in Massachusetts close to 100,000, public health officials reported an additional 74 deaths and 5,657 new coronavirus cases on Saturday.
The Public Health Service currently estimates that there are 98,317 active cases of highly contagious viruses in the Commonwealth.
The 5,657 new cases reported on Saturday bring the total number of cases confirmed in Massachusetts since the pandemic began at 444,028. An additional 142 possible cases were reported for a total of 465,726 possible aggregates that could have been identified.
An additional 112,120 tests were reported on Saturday, bringing the total to about 12.3 million.
The average positive rate for 7 days was 6.2%.When removing tests at higher education, the average was 7.4%
Currently, 2,197 patients are hospitalized for the virus, down from more than 2,200 at the beginning of the week and more than 2,400 last week. As of Saturday, there were 433 patients in the intensive care unit and 294 intubated.
The 74 new deaths will bring the state’s confirmed COVID-19 casualties to 13,305. Including deaths associated with possible cases, it increases to 13,583.
The care facility is currently reporting 7,747 deaths associated with COVID-19. There are 418 facilities that have reported at least one confirmed or possible case, and 32,661 residents and health care workers are ill.
