Happy childhood key to reducing drinks, teen drug risk
New studies suggest that if your teenager has happy childhood memories, they are less likely to indulge in alcohol or substance abuse and are less likely to enjoy learning.
Findings published in the journal Addiction Research and Theory show that positive attitudes towards the past, present and future reduce the risk of youth drinking, drinking and marijuana.

They also analyzed marijuana and alcohol habits, including heavy drinking over the last 30 days, and average academic performance. They analyzed motivation levels and behavior in lessons, such as how much attention and listening teenagers had.
Statistical methods have been used by researchers to assess the association between all these different factors and to establish key predictors of alcohol and marijuana misuse.
Researchers are calling on teachers and parents to help students develop more positive thinking, motivate them to learn, and reduce heavy drinking and marijuana use.
The purpose of this study was to establish how substance abuse and learning behaviors are influenced by student sentiment about the past, present and future.
