Genetically modified mosquitoes have been released at Keys
A handful of boxes filled with thousands of genetically modified mosquitoes will be scattered throughout the Florida Keys this week as scientists are trying to find ways to combat the ability to transmit insect disease.
Female Aedes aegypti is known to be the leading source of several viral illnesses such as dengue and Zika. Genetically modified midges breed with females in the hope that their offspring will not survive.
