Four new cases of Yellowknife Covid-19 cluster

The territorial government announced four new cases of Covid-19 related to the outbreak of NJ McPherson School in Yellowknife on Monday, bringing the total number of clusters to 69.

Of these 69 cases, 24 are currently active and 45 are recovering, according to the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer. So far, 86% of cluster-related positive cases were children under the age of 18.

Positive cases continue to be active in non-resident workers at the Diavik Diamond Mine, bringing the total number of active cases in the region to 25.

The NJ McPherson School Cluster contains the B117 variant (or “UK variant”) of the virus that causes Covid-19.

Schools in Yellowknife, Detah, Ndilǫ, and Behchokǫ̀ reopened this week after a two-week suspension imposed by NWT’s Chief Public Health Officer when the outbreak first began.
