Chauvis, Wondolofsky scored, Earthquakes beat Austin 4-0

SAN JOSE, CA (AFP) – Javier “Choves” Lopez scored the first of San Jose’s four goals in the second half as the Earthquakes beat Austin 4-0 on Wednesday night.

Benjamin Kikanovic, Chris Wondolofsky and Carlos Fierro also scored goals to help San Jose (9-12-9) to clinch a three-game losing streak in which they won 9-2.

Austin (7-19-4) lost eight of the last 10.

Chavis opened the scoring in the 47th minute. A cross from Kikanovic in the middle of the area was directed directly to Chavez, who fired a slow shot through a pair of defenders into the open net.

Kikanovic won a frenzied dash on the ball that left two players on the ground before beating goalkeeper Brad Stover to make it 2-0 in the 53rd minute. Wondolofsky scored a one-touch goal from the center of the area in the 59th minute, and Fierro capped the score in the 85th minute.

Wondolowski has 169 career goals in the MLS. He scored for the first time since he scored both goals for San Jose in the 2-1 win over Real Salt Lake on May 7.

Fierro scored in consecutive MLS matches for the first time in his career. The 27-year-old scored his first goal of the season in a 4-1 loss to Los Angeles FC last Saturday.
