Aftershocks can cause more damage

Taitung Epicenter: The CWB said yesterday’s earthquake originated from the formation of a solid plate that produces fewer earthquakes, but accumulates decades of seismic energy.

Yesterday, the Central Meteorological Bureau (CWB) said people should be prepared for more aftershock damage after the 6.8-magnitude quake at 2:44 pm yesterday, although aftershocks are expected to be smaller in size. and to occur less frequently than yesterday’s earthquakes.

Qin said the public natural disaster warning system worked normally yesterday, as residents in eight cities and counties in southern Chiayi County received warnings 10 seconds before the main quake.

President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) urged people to beware of other aftershocks of the earthquake in the coming hours.
