Magnitude 4.8 earthquake strikes West Arvak Mountains in Papua

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – A 4.8-magnitude earthquake hit the Arvak Mountains region of West Papua Province on Saturday evening, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported.

There were no immediate reports of human or material losses following the earthquake, whose epicenter is located seven kilometers northwest of the Irqaq Mountains, at a depth of 12 kilometers.

According to the agency, the tremor triggered by the quake in the province was recorded at 10:17 p.m. West Indonesia Time (WIB) on the third scale of the Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI).
