Day Star Christian Center donates N15 million to support Turkish-Syrian earthquake victims

LAGOS, Nigeria, May 03, 2023 /24-7 PressRelease/ — In response to the catastrophic humanitarian crisis caused by the earthquakes that struck Turkey and Syria on February 6, Day Star Christian Center in Lagos, Nigeria, led by Rev. Sam Adeyemi and his wife, Rev. Nike Adeyemi, has donated an amount 15 million Nike Adeyemi ($32,559) to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for life-saving assistance and protection for those affected.

The church’s senior pastor, Sam Adeyemi, said, “The church does not exist for itself. It exists to serve the needs of the community. We are to love our neighbors, and according to Christ, being neighbors is not defined by distance. We are neighbors when we care.”

The Turkish-Syrian earthquakes of magnitude 7.8 and 7.7 recorded the largest earthquakes in the region since 1938, causing an ongoing catastrophe with over 57,000 confirmed dead, 1.5 million displaced, and an estimated 14 million affected.

Daystar has a proud history of helping those in need, partnering with UNHCR in the past to assist Internally Displaced People (IDPs) across Africa, and donating N95 face masks and surgical gowns to both the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research and Lagos State University.
