The number of active COVID-19 infections in South Dakota declined for the first time in more than a week, according to a daily report from the Ministry of Health.

The state has recreated 2,568 recovery to outperform 1,332 new infections in 2,638 tested. The total number of positive tests in the state has increased to 45,437, of which 13,138 are still considered active.

After only 8,880 cases were seen in September, there were 21,827 new infections in October. On October 1, there were only 3,658 active cases in the state. In October, 202 people died, doubling the number of people being treated in hospitals throughout the state.

421 people are hospitalized in South Dakota, 113 of whom are in the Black Hills area. There are 14 people in the Black Hills intensive care unit and 79 in the state. Seven of the 41 people using ventilators are in the Black Hills area. Monument Health reported yesterday that 91 patients were being treated with their system.

After the worst month of the pandemic in October, November began with reported 12 deaths. It brings a total of 437 states. The deaths reported on Sunday included seven men and five women. Six were over 80 years old, two were in their 70s, and four were in their 60s.
