LA County has surpassed 500,000 coronavirus cases, December has already passed November – Daily News
In less than two weeks, Los Angeles County recorded more cases of coronavirus in December than in any other month.
New data reported on Friday, December 11, show no indication that the current surge in cases, hospitalizations, or deaths could soon be delayed. The total number of cases reported in the county exceeded 500,000 on Friday, reaching 501,635.
On Friday, County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer reported 13,815 new cases. This is the highest surge in a day since the pandemic began. And due to the surge, the total number reported so far in December was 100,716. To date, the maximum number of cases reported per month in Los Angeles County was 93,301 in November.

In addition to the new cases, LA County also reported 50 coronavirus-related deaths, including two reported on Thursday at Long Beach. The county’s death toll is currently 8,199.
These figures do not include data reported by Long Beach or Pasadena on Friday. Both maintain their own health sector.
So far in December, an average of 49 people die from the coronavirus per day in the county. So far, July has been the deadliest pandemic month in LA County, killing 1,252 people and averaging 42 people per day. Therefore, December will be the county’s most deadly pandemic month, unless the average daily death toll in LA County begins to decline (which is unlikely at this time).
To explain the magnitude of the current surge, Ferrer said the average daily death toll a month ago was 18. Two weeks ago there were 30 people and this week there were 51 people.
An average of 80 people can die from the virus each day in Los Angeles County in two weeks, Feller said.
“These numbers are overwhelming, and I don’t understand the sadness that our community continues to experience,” she said.
According to Feller, 3,624 people were hospitalized for coronavirus in Los Angeles County on Friday, of which 23% were on intensive care and 15% were on ventilator.
He said the current number of hospitalizations came two weeks before the county saw an average of 4,200 new cases per day, as increased hospitalizations tended to lag behind the increase in cases.
She said she currently has an average of 10,200 new cases per day and is expected to receive 7,326 hospitalizations per day in LA County in two weeks. Also, given current data, it is estimated that approximately 1,685 of these patients will require treatment in the intensive care unit.

Within a few weeks, if the current order doesn’t seem to be working as intended, Feller said more stringent restrictions could come.
