First Covid-19 vaccination begins at Warrington Hospital
Runcorn’s MAN became the first person to receive a coronavirus vaccine at Warrington Hospital after officially launching the vaccination program.
James White and Bill Vernon became the first patients to be vaccinated with Pfizer vaccine at the hospital’s new vaccination hub last night on Tuesday.
After receiving the first dose from occupational health nurse Lorraine Kennion, 82-year-old runcorn-based James said he was looking forward to visiting his grandchildren if possible.
Shortly thereafter, Warrington-based Bill, 84, was vaccinated by his chief nurse, Fat Hatton.
After receiving the jab, Bill said: “Today, when I asked about it when I booked, I was told that I could get it, so I wanted to meet my family with peace of mind, so I jumped at the opportunity.”

The start of the hospital vaccination program was welcomed by Simon Constable, Chief Executive Officer of the Warrington and Harton Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
He states: “At WHH, work is underway to vaccinate patients over the age of 80, and NHS and Care Home staff have prioritized the first phase of this vaccination program.
“This was a big step in the local battle with Covid-19 and we are pleased to be able to put the plan into action after a few weeks of preparation.
“Our team works hard to provide the first dose of the vaccine to as many people as possible in the days before Christmas, and continues from the festival to the New Year.
“Thanks to all the teams involved and to all the teams who were called in and booked for the first vaccination.”
The Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospital is one of the many hospital hubs in Cheshire and Merseyside that administer vaccines.
Residents are urged not to contact the hospital regarding vaccination appointments, as everyone in the priority group will receive an invitation to book from the GP or NHS hub.
