Two Krieger School Professors Receive Guggenheim Fellowships
Two Johns Hopkins faculty members recognized Guggenheim Fellowships 2024: Jenann Ismaëlprofessor in the Department of Philosophy, and Marc Kamionkowski, professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. This prestigious award recognizes academics, scientists and artists for their significant achievements in their respective fields.

Jenann Ismael's scholarship belongs to the philosophy category. His research focuses on the philosophy of physics and metaphysics, particularly areas involving the structure of space and time, quantum mechanics, and the foundations of physical laws. Marc Kamionkowski's scholarship belongs to the astronomy-astrophysics category. He is a theoretical physicist specializing in cosmology and particle physics. Much of his work has focused on the hypothesis that a new elementary particle could constitute cosmological dark matter, his main focus being particle dark matter, inflation, the cosmic microwave background, and cosmic acceleration.
Guggenheim Fellows receive financial awards and were selected from a pool of nearly 3,000 applicants. The Guggenheim Foundation was established in 1925 by U.S. Senator Simon Guggenheim and his wife Olga Guggenheim in memory of their son John.
