Hollywood only supports “four” female directors

Kristen Stewart says Hollywood does the bare minimum when it comes to supporting filmmakers. Well, there are more than four.

Stewart spoke about the difficulty in finding funding to make “The Water Timeline.” Stewart has been attached to direct the film since 2018 and co-wrote the screenplay with Andy Mingo.

“It’s a pretty awkward thing to talk about, because it’s hard to make anything happen,” she said of the feature film. “You know, [a film] it doesn't regurgitate something fairly standardized. My film is about incest, periods and a woman who violently reclaims her voice and her body, and it's sometimes difficult to watch… but it's going to be a fucking adventure.

But that doesn’t mean “The Water Timeline” is too niche to find an audience.

“I think it's commercial,” Stewart said, “but I don't think I have any idea what that means. I think people would want to see that, but then… I think maybe the people want to watch movies about Jesus and dogs.
