MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – “Keep the goods and beware” is the message during this pandemic A train on a vehicle, a rolling course in Milwaukee for exercise and fun. While classes are temporarily suspended, instructors remain connected by offering Facebook textbooks that highlight skating exercises at home.

But before the pandemic took effect, Kim Shine jumped on board.

There is no judgment in this area.

Because balancing on four wheels is not necessarily easy.

Melinda Jimenez has been skating on and off all her life, but she’s still learning things here.

“They taught me just like all this new stuff. I’ve never done any of this before, so anyone could learn it. It’s a lot of fun,” Jimenez said.

In Milwaukee A train on a vehicle builds a different community.

Ellen Fine founded the group about eight years ago, after learning the skill herself, and went skating to San Francisco.

“I just decided that I wanted everyone to be able to experience what I experienced and that it’s not always possible to go out there on your own and try to learn it,” Fine said.

But she also knew that learning to skate, with more experienced skaters, could be daunting. So, she created smaller classes with a focus on fitness.

“I was really intimidated when I first started,” said participant Michael McAfee.

McAfee skated with Roll Train for over two years.

“I like it the most, I can exercise and then really think about it. Also, like, a really good brain cleaner. Forget about a lot of other things, ”he said.

“Yeah, I’m sweating right now, so that’s it, yeah, you don’t even expect it. You just have fun and before you know it, you sweat,” Jimenez said. “Yes, you will be up at first, but you will get over it. Still, it’s all a workout.”

Currently, classes are being held in a quaint location on the south side of Milwaukee.

A door sign, at 719 S. Fifth Street takes you down.

From there you will hear music.

“You become addicted to it once you start it,” said Terrance Clarke, A train on a vehicleCreator and accomplice Fine.

He has been on wheels since he was 16 years old.

“We call it the escape button. You know, because it’s a good workout, and it’s fun. It’s not like going to the gym where you grind and work and can’t wait to go,” he added.

Clarke and Fine together lead the way for all levels of skaters.

Their weekly classes range from beginners – where you will learn basic movements and balance – to intermediate and advanced ones.

Take it from 12-year-old Jocelyn Maciejewski. After more than a year here, she’s acting like a pro.

“It’s fun to learn from you. You get into a lot of routines, practices and performances, and a lot of fun. It’s really fun to roll and know all these dances,” Maciejewski said.

Private sessions are available, but these students are encouraged to join the group when they are ready.

“There will always be someone who is a beginner because every person was a beginner, except maybe two, who will come forward and I will know that I had problems with this move,” Fine said. “So they get me, they get Terrence, and then they get at least eight other people who were there a while ago.”

“I like to make so many new friends at age 51 that I just thought I was done with it. I just knew they were my people and I went and found them myself, and I finally went to take a class on my own

Besides fitness and fun, A train on a vehicle it’s really about the love of skating culture.

Fine and Clarke say there is definitely a scene in Milwaukee, and it has to grow a lot of space.

“That’s good, but it’s hard because we only have two days for ice skating here, and it’s Wednesday night for adult skating, Wednesday and Sunday night. If you go to Chicago, I can skate every day,” Clarke said.

For these people, skating has added a creative mix to their lives that will forget about your troubles, open up at the rink and get family.

“You can’t think about your problems,” Fine said. “You can’t think about your bills, you can’t think about work, because you’re on wheels and you have to think about it before you know it, you’ve been practicing relaxed and singing in your car.”
