PATNA: Suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives Mohammad Nasir Khan and Imran Khan had planned more terrorist attacks in the country according to sources familiar with the investigation into the Darbhanga package explosion case led by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The explosion took place on platform number one of Darbhanga station on June 17. An IED was kept inside a package containing clothing that had reached it from the Secunderabad junction. The NIA detained the Nasir brothers, who had been trained in Pakistan to make IEDs, and Imran on Saturday and Kafil Ansari on Sunday. They were then taken to Delhi for questioning. The alleged LeT recruiter, Haji Salim, is being held at Beur Central Prison in Patna. All are from Kairana in Uttar Pradeshs Shamli. The brothers were arrested on June 30 in Hyderabad where they had settled two decades ago. The others were arrested in Kairana on July 2. Sources said the IED containing liquid explosives inside a glass bottle smaller than the size of a cough syrup container was the first that Nasir and Imran had prepared for live testing. . If it had successfully detonated, a larger version would have to be made for future terrorist attacks across the country, a source said. Sources said the two brothers told the NIA their plan was to detonate the IED inside a parcel van near the Kazipet junction. However, the NIA and intelligence agencies have suspicions about the information shared by the duo. They strongly suspect that the package containing the IED was to be taken somewhere in Darbhanga, but it exploded due to improper handling by a worker who threw it on the ground, a source said. Sources said that Nasir and Imran developed the IED based on the concept of mixing two liquid chemicals, causing an explosion with generation of heat and fire. A source said the brothers told the NIA that they were using cardboard as a separation layer in the IED of the Darbhanga package.
