Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an election speech in Kozhikode on April 16, calling him a tool of a few rich businessmen in the country.
Mr Gandhi said Mr Modi's job was to distract people from the country's real problems, protect India's richest businessmen and “forgive their bank loans”. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the tool of five or six of India's biggest and richest businessmen,” the sitting MP from Wayanad alleged, claiming that Mr. Modi had donated around 16 million lakh to 20 to 25 people in the country.
“He does not talk about the problems facing the country's farmers, unemployment or rising prices,” Mr Gandhi said while addressing party supporters, workers and the public during his roadshow from Kodiyathur, in this district.
He said the electoral bonds were a form of extortion committed by Prime Minister Modi. He also accused the BJP and the RSS of trying to destroy and change the Constitution and added that this was the only big problem in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls and all other problems emanated from it.
This is Mr. Gandhi's second visit to Wayanad since the dates of the Lok Sabha elections were announced. He filed his candidacy this month and organized a major roadshow. In 2019, he won the constituency with a record margin of 4,31,770 votes.
Polling in Kerala's 20 Lok Sabha seats will be held on April 26.
