Indonesia, Singapore discuss green energy, data center at IKN
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -VSAuthorizing Minister for economic affairs, Airlangga Hartarto met SingaporeForeign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan visited Jakarta on Tuesday, April 23, to prepare for the leadership retreat between President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and the Prime Minister of Singapore on April 29, 2024.
“We are optimistic that economic relations between the two countries will continue to prosper through various potential bilateral cooperations,” Airlangga said in an official statement, Tuesday, April 23.
This collaboration includes the area of green energy, particularly solar farms, carbon capture storage, Batam-Bintan-Karimun development, digital connectivity and data centers. Airlangga said many data centers will be built in the state capital or Nusantara (IKN). These aim to support the development of IKN which carries modern concepts and digitalization.
Other strategic collaborations, he continued, include human resource development through skills development, talent exchange in the digital sector and capacity building in the health sector.
Airlangga reaffirmed the Indonesian government's unwavering support for strong relations with Singapore, both bilaterally and within ASEAN, for economic growth and regional stability.
In addition, Airlangga and Vivian Balakrishnan too deliberated on Indonesia's membership in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the economic issues linked to geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East.
On this occasion, Balakrishnan expressed optimism that Indonesia conclude the smooth running of the membership process.
Previously, Airlangga claimed that pressure from the Iran-Israel conflict on the weakening of the rupee and the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) had reduced.
Although the rupiah exchange rate depreciated by 5.16 percent to Rp 16,235 against the US dollar, he argued that Indonesia's situation remained better than other countries, as the Taiwan dollar which depreciated by 5.95 percent on April 22 and the South Korean won by 6.62 percent. .
“Indonesia’s fundamentals are relatively good,” Airlangga concluded.
