Imran Khan's wife transferred to jail at his request: lawyer

In her petition, Bushra Bibi accuses the authorities of violating her privacy and serving her contaminated food while under house arrest.

A Pakistani court on Wednesday granted the request of Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, to be transferred to prison, her lawyer said, instead of being placed under house arrest.

In her petition to the Islamabad High Court, Bushra had accused authorities of violating her privacy and serving contaminated food in her cell, which she and her lawyers said was dominated by men, a a charge that prison staff denied.

Bibi says she has been held in a room at Khan's Islamabad mansion since the couple was convicted in January of illegally selling state gifts.

Through her lawyers, Bibi had requested to be transferred to prison, which authorities granted shortly after the court issued the order, said her party and a local administration official, Afzaal. Ahmad.

The court ordered authorities to transfer her to Adyala prison in the garrison town of Rawalpindi, where Khan, 70, a former cricket superstar, is serving his 14-year sentence, his party said in a statement.

The party said moving Bibi to prison would respond to criticism that his stay at home rather than in prison was part of a deal to extract concessions from the government.

No negotiations with the PTI: the army

Pakistani army spokesman General Ahmed Sharif said in response to a question on Tuesday that it was not possible to open negotiations for a deal with a party involved in attacks on state institutions.

He was referring to Khan's party supporters who stormed and burned military installations on May 9 last year to protest the former cricketer's arrest, saying those responsible for the attacks must demand sorry before asking for negotiations.

Asad Qaisar, a close aide of Khan, told local ARY television that any form of apology was out of the question.

Khan was ousted from power in 2022, which he blamed on a military-backed conspiracy after falling out with powerful army generals.
