Janet Yellen has been at the top of economic policy for decades, having previously served as head of the Federal Reserve, president of the San Francisco Fed and chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, among other roles, before becoming Treasury secretary.
But her visits to various restaurants at home and abroad have recently won her legions of foodie fans, especially after she ate psychedelic mushrooms in Beijing last July.
In a interview with the New York TimesYellen reflected on the impact her high-profile food and dining choices have had.
It's not like this is a plan to conduct some kind of diplomacy, she told the Times while I was in a Manhattan delicatessen. Nevertheless, it seems to have had that impact.
While eating out helps her bond with her staff and other officials, she also enjoys trying different foods and doesn't hesitate to go out for a meal after long meetings with finance ministers and briefings with journalists, the report said.

Yellen also rejected China's industrial policies, warning that its overcapacity could flood the world with artificially cheap goods.
As U.S. deficits and debt continue to climb, she tried to downplay immediate concerns about current conditions while acknowledging that the outlook for higher long-term interest rates will make it harder to control borrowing costs in the future.
