Projecting India as the country of greatest opportunities globally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday promised ease of doing business, reforms, stable political system and strong growth.
Addressing the ET Global Leaders Forum, Modi in turn asked investors to commit to innovation, performance, positive disruption and high-quality products, while stressing that the country respects wealth creators.
While the opposition often attacks his government for its reduced majority, the prime minister asserted that his government had entered its third term with more determined intentions and was full of hope and confidence, citing a series of decisions it had taken for the welfare of various sections of the society and to strengthen infrastructure.
While citizens in most countries that went to the polls this year voted for change, Indians preferred continuity, political stability and economic growth, Modi said, asserting that a new neo-middle class is the engine of the country's progress and setting the direction of its market.
India is writing a unique success story and the impact of its reforms is visible in the performance of the economy, he said.
In this dynamic world, he said, his government's policies and strategy are also dynamic. It takes necessary measures based on needs, defining its policies not based on the past but on the evolution of the future.
“Our focus is on the future. We want to prepare the country for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead,” he said, highlighting his government's initiatives in green hydrogen, semiconductors, deep oceans and space.
The country has witnessed sustained growth over the last decade, with a 90 per cent increase during the period against a global growth of 35 per cent, he said, adding that the prosperity of the world lies in the prosperity of India.
India has performed better than most people expected, he said.
His government wants more companies to become global brands and the country to emerge as a leader in all sectors, Modi said.
He described the third decade of this century as an era of take-off for the country that will benefit everyone.
India adheres to the mantra of innovation, inclusiveness and international cooperation, Modi said
“In less than 100 days of our government's third term, we have taken great decisions for the poor, women, youth and farmers,” he said, citing measures such as more housing for the poor, a youth program and the approval of many highway and railway projects.
Modi said his government was working to make the country a global health and wellness hub, noting that it had added one lakh more medical seats in the last 10 years, up from 60,000 earlier. Over 75,000 more seats will be added in the next five years, he said.
He also highlighted the efforts being made to enhance India's tourism profile and make it a global food basket. He is committed to ensuring that a 'Made in India' product is present on every table in the world, he added.
His government, he said, has managed to bring great changes in the lives of people through its mantra of reform, execution and transformation.
With more than 250 million people lifted out of poverty, a new middle class has emerged on a historic scale and speed never seen in a democratic society, Modi said.
Their needs drive growth and fuel demand in the market, he added.
