Many users speculated that the female commando could be part of the elite Special Protection Group (SPG).

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kangana Ranaut on Thursday shared a photo of a female commando behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament.

The image, shared by the MP on Instagram, shows Prime Minister Modi walking in front of a female commando in a dark suit, alongside Union Minister Kiren Rijiju.

The image went viral on social media.

Many users speculated that the female commando could be part of the elite Special Protection Group (SPG). However, his exact branch of service remains unknown.

Notably, female commandos have been part of the SPG security framework for years. Since 2015, women have also been part of the SPG's close protection team (CPT). Currently, the SPG has around 100 female commandos, according to India today.

What is GSP?

The SPG was established in April 1985 under the Cabinet Secretariat by the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi following the assassination of his mother, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, by her guards of the body.

The SPG Act came into existence in 1988, providing for the constitution and regulation of a Union Armed Force providing close security to the Prime Minister, former Prime Ministers and members of their immediate families residing with them in their official/assigned residences. The Prime Minister cannot refuse the security cover of the elite group led by a director.

SPG officers have been awarded one Shaurya Chakra, 45 Presidential Police Medals for Distinguished Service and 347 Police Medals for Meritorious Service so far, according to its website.
