Prime Minister Modi and King of Bhutan decide to further develop their exemplary bilateral relations
NEW DELHI: India And Bhutan On Thursday, they pledged to further expand their “exemplary” partnership across all sectors with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi transmit to King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck New Delhi's strong commitment to the economic development of the Himalayan nation.
Soon after Wangchuck arrived here for a two-day trip, he and Modi held talks focused on strengthening cooperation in various areas, including clean energy partnership, trade and investment , space and technology.
Modi reaffirmed India's continued commitment to its enduring ties of friendship and cooperation with Bhutan, and reiterated its continued and full support for the socio-economic development of Bhutan based on the priorities of the Bhutanese government, according to a joint press release.
The two leaders exchanged ideas on the 'Gelephu Mindfulness City' initiative, a visionary project led by Wangchuk to catalyze Bhutan's development and strengthen ties with neighboring border areas of India.
The King of Bhutan was received at the airport by Foreign Minister S Jaishankarreflecting the importance that India attaches to the Bhutanese leader's visit.
The king is accompanied by Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck and senior officials of the Bhutanese government.
After the talks, Prime Minister Modi hosted a luncheon in honor of the King and Queen.
“The meeting underlined the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between India and Bhutan, reflecting the spirit of mutual trust, cooperation and deep understanding that underpins the bilateral relations between the two countries,” said a Indian press release.
The Prime Minister and the King expressed satisfaction with the excellent state of bilateral relations, encompassing development cooperation, clean energy partnership, trade and investment, space and technology cooperation, as well as ties between peoples, said the press release.
“They reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen this exemplary partnership in all sectors,” the statement said.
“The Prime Minister reiterated India's strong commitment to Bhutan's economic development, highlighting India's doubling of development support to Bhutan for its 13th Five Year Plan,” the statement noted.
The king expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and the people of India for their unwavering support for Bhutan's aspirations for happiness, progress and prosperity, the statement added.
During the discussions, Modi fondly recalled the “exceptionally warm hospitality” extended by the Bhutanese government and the Bhutanese people during his state visit to the country in March.
