New look Carlson awaits Nanooks Hockey in 2024-25
HONEST BANKS – The Alaska Nanooks hockey team has announced updates for the upcoming 2024-25 season.
First, the Nanooks open their season on September 21 with their annual Blue/Gold scrimmage at Patty Ice Arena. A week later, the Nanooks host the Grand Canyon Antelopes for an exhibition game. This game is the first of three games the Nanooks will play at Fairbanks' Big Dipper Arena. The following weekend, October 5-6, the Nanooks host Penn State for their season openers, completing their three-game series in the Dipper.
Tickets for the exhibition and seasonal matches played at the Dipper are available for general admission only.
The Carlson Center, the official home of the Alaska Nanooks hockey program, will host the first games of the 2024-25 season on Dec. 6-7 as the Augustana Vikings make their second-ever trip to the 49th state. In September 2023, the Fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly announced funding for the Carlson Center to undergo major upgrades, including new lower level bleachers, a new refrigeration system for ice making, preparation and maintenance, and new NHL-sized backboards and glass.
“These renovations to the Carlson Center, including NHL-sized ice and new lower seating, will transform the way our fans, students and community experience Nanooks Hockey,” said Director of Athletics Brock Anundson, “This will undoubtedly provide an enhanced experience, faster pace and more exciting environment for years to come. Our student-athletes will also now have the opportunity to compete on the same rink that can bridge them into their professional careers. We are grateful and excited to continue working with the FNSB on this tremendous upgrade.” These upgrades will usher in a new look for the Carlson Center as the Nanooks return to NHL-sized ice (200’x85’) for the first time since permanently moving to the Carlson Center in 1990.
“We are very excited about all the different changes this year,” said Coach Largen. “Playing in the Big Dipper for the first two weekends will give our community a fun opportunity to experience Nanook hockey in a different way. The changes to the Carlson Center will make the game even more exciting for fans and help better develop our players for future careers in professional hockey.”
With these upgrades, the Nanooks and the Carlson Center will match professional-level play while providing an elevated experience for fans and students who get closer to the fast-paced game. After Augustana in December, the Nanooks will play five more home games at the Carlson Center.

Finally, season ticket holders for the 2023-24 season can now renew their seats for the latest installment of Alaska Hockey. Season ticket holders will receive a renewal link today or they can log in to their eTix portal using this CLUTCHExtended seats remain reserved, even during the general opening of season tickets and individual matches.
Season tickets will be officially available to the general public from Thursday 1 August.
