Offiong Edem retires after a 20-year table tennis career – Voice of Nigeria
Nigerian table tennis legend Offiong Edem has announced her retirement from international competition, ending an illustrious two-decade career.
The 37-year-old, who has represented Nigeria at numerous major tournaments including the Olympic Games, shared her decision on Thursday via her social media accounts, where she also hinted at plans to mentor young talents and inspire future champions.
As a proud five-time Olympian, I say goodbye to the national team. It's time to explore new horizons and nurture young table tennis talents, inspiring the next generation to surpass my achievements. said the Calabar-born athlete, who reached a world ranking of 89.
Looking back on her journey, Edem expressed her gratitude to her supporters. From humble beginnings in Bayside to international recognition, I thank God for the talent and opportunities it brought.
