Virginia Men Tennis | No. 5 Virginia Rallies to beat Notre Dame 4-3
Notre Dame, Ind. The No. 5 Virginia Mens Tennis team came back to book a 4-3 road victory on Notre Dame on Friday (March 28) in the Eck Tennis Pavillion.
Freshman Roy Horovitz won the clincher for the Cavaliers (13-6, 5-4 ACC) and broke a 3-3 draw to help the Cavaliers complete the comeback against the Irish (11-11, 0-9 ACC).
Notre Dame started the game with a 6-3 victory over Doubles Court Three. Sophomore Dylan Dietrich and first-year student Jangjun Kim reacted with a 6-2 victory over Doubles Court Two, but the Irish took the Doubles point with a narrow 7-6 (3) victory at the Top Dubbelshof.
The Irish expanded their lead to 2-0 with a Straight set victory on the top Singles Court.
Shortly thereafter, graduated student James Hopper got the hoos on the board and took a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Court Three on Chase Thompson.
Junior Mans Dahlberg followed a 6-3, 7-6 (8) victory over Kyran Magimay on Court Six, which saved several set points in the second set of Tiebreak before he got away with the victory and the match Bond with the Irish.
Kim gave the Cavaliers their first lead of the day and broke 5-5 in the second set to win 6-3, 7-5 against Jameson Corsillo at Hof Five.
Notre Dame booked a Straight set victory over Court Two to bind the game to three.
The match came to the court four. Horovitz dropped the first set and was a break in the second set to Peter Nad, but he gathered to take the second set 6-3, forcing a decision-maker. In the decisive set, both players held most of the set, but Horovitz was able to get the crucial break on 5-5 to serve before the game.
