Ashley Goodliffes’ five goals leads bears past Lourdes

POUGHKEEPSIE There will be no sleep on the Brewster High School hockey team this season.

The Bears are off to a 2-0-1 start in their first three games after Ashley Goodliffe exploded on Saturday, leading Brewster to a 9-1 victory over Our Lady of Lourdes.

Goodliffe had five goals and two assists in the win.

We showed our strong teamwork, dynamic skills and adaptability, said Bears coach Jen Hershman. As a coach, I am grateful for the opportunity to have a season in any capacity. Our hockey program is constantly growing and improving. The Varsity and JV teams have the opportunity to showcase their talented drive, passing and scoring ability. We will cherish every moment we come out on the field together during these times. These girls make connections that have stayed past the season.

Grace OGorman had four assists for Brewster, Sasha Kulo had two goals and an assist, Emily Monaco had a goal and an assist, Eva Cucinelli made an assist and Lindsay Sxhmitt added her first varsity goal.

For Lourdes it was the opening game of the year. Midfielder Eliza Petronio scored Lourdes’s first goal of the season, with Kayla Vitro as an assistant.

While the game didn’t go our way, I’m glad our teams are playing, said OLL coach Nikkie DAleo. Our defense put on a strong show, and Elizas’ goal was certainly a moral boost for our girls.

DAleo added that goalkeeper Kaity Meade scored 11 saves and senior Kaitlin Chillemi was defensively strong.
