SMU vs. Cincinnati Updates: Live NCAA Football Game Results, Results for Saturday
The Cincinnati Bearcats have had a week off and are no doubt ready to hit the field again. They are packing and heading for their first away game this season. They will take on the SMU Mustangs at Gerald J. Ford Stadium on Saturday at 9:00 pm ET. Both red-hot teams will try to put the other on ice to keep their winning streaks alive.
If there was any doubt why the Bearcats were big favorites on Saturday, the team quickly put those doubts away. They recorded their game against the South Florida Bulls three weeks ago with a convincing 28-7 score. The game was nearly completed at the end of the third, at which point Cincinnati had reached a 28-7 lead. No one had a standout match for Cincinnati offensively, but they got scores from RB Gerrid Doaks, TE Bruno Labelle and TE Josh Whyle.
The Cincinnati defense was a force to be reckoned with, amassing five interceptions and one fumble. CB Coby Bryant picked up two of those interceptions, one with 2:35 PM to play in the first quarter, the other with 10:51 AM remaining in the second quarter.
Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to get the job done, but SMU finally got the result they hoped for last Friday with a 37-34 win over the Tulane Green Wave. The score was tied at half time 17-17, but SMU was the better team in the second half. SMU’s WR Danny Gray was one of the most active players for the team, hitting in one hasty touchdown, catching five passes for one TD and 133 yards. That receiving effort made it the first game to receive Gray over 100 yards.
Special teams collected 13 points for the Mustangs. K Chris Naggar started with three field goals, the longest a 48-year-old in the first quarter, which ultimately explained the difference in the game.
The Bearcats are now a perfect 3-0 while SMU is at 5-0. Two numbers to keep in mind before kickoff: Cincinnati hasn’t allowed a passing touchdown this season. But the Mustangs come into play with the fourth most passing touchdowns in the country with ten. We will see which of these strengths – offense or defense – will win.
