So what can we do with this? Both companies are extending his two capabilities utilizing his LLM, and both of these tools are now available to his Pro users. The Recorder app adds an improved Gemini-powered summarization feature that runs locally on your device. Similar tools already exist, but they require a network connection. Once Gemini Nano is installed, there is no need to send data to a server. As you might expect, this feature creates a summary of the recorded conversation.

Gemini Nano also powers the Gboards Smart Reply toolset. The software suggests responses to messages and also recognizes the context of the conversation. It started as a WhatsApp exclusive, but has recently expanded to Line and KakaoTalk as well. Google promises more messaging apps will add support in the coming months. It's pretty strange that Google Messages isn't one of the early adopters of this platform. The Gemini Nano has been used to launch Magic Compose on devices in Messages on the Pixel 8 Pro and Samsung S24, but Google has announced whether this particular tool will come standard on his Pixel 8.
