M 4.0 and 3.8 earthquakes strike near the Salton Sea

News

Two earthquakes were reported within minutes of each other Wednesday afternoon south of the Salton Sea.

The first earthquake had a magnitude of 4.0 and occurred at approximately 2:45 pm near Oktillo Wells. Five minutes later, another earthquake occurred in the same area.

According to the USGS, five earthquakes have occurred in the same area in the past three hours.
