Culver City Chamber is partnering with the area company to conduct an earthquake retrofit workshop on April 18

The Culver City Chamber of Commerce also arranged for member Optimum Seismic, Inc. To provide free preliminary engineering services for earthquake modification to owners and managers of residential buildings during the months of April and May. This special offer includes: a field visit/initial consultation; alternatives to engineering analysis and design; In-person meeting to present Optimum Seismic results and firm construction estimate; and prepare a Soft Story Inspection Report as required by the Culver City Ordinance.

Culver City has conducted an inventory of the buildings most vulnerable to serious seismic damage based on age, construction, and materials. The city adopted the Earthquake Retrofit Act in 2021 to make these buildings and their occupants safer from earthquakes.

Culver City has a large number of older apartment buildings that may have structural issues with soft-storied construction. These buildings feature parking spaces that often have weak supports for the upper units and may be prone to failure in earthquakes.
