Iran’s morality police, charged with enforcing a strict Islamic dress code, are being disbanded, the country’s attorney general says. Mohammad Jafar Montazeri made the comments at a religious conference on Sunday, although they have yet to be confirmed by other agencies. He said that the moral police “have nothing to do with the judiciary and have been shut down from where they were established.” Iran has been rocked by months of protests since the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who was arrested by morality police for breaking strict rules on head coverings.
