Today's Earthquake: A 3.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nanded in Maharashtra this morning (October 22), according to the National Center of Seismology (NCS).

The epicenter of the earthquake was at 19.38 degrees north latitude and 77.46 degrees east longitude, at a depth of 5 kilometers.

According to the ANI website, there have been no reports of damage or casualties so far.

Increasing earthquake incidents

On October 13, two earthquakes were felt across India – one in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda district and the other in Assam's Udalguri. Over the past few weeks, earthquake incidents have increased in the region, and experts believe that the main reason behind the frequent earthquakes is the release of pressure.

A 4.3 magnitude earthquake struck the Chenab Valley in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir at 6.14 am on October 13, according to the National Statistics Authority. The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 4 km, and was located at the coordinates: Lat, Long 32.95, 75.83.

Local residents of Darrang, Tamulpur, Sonepur, Kamrup and Biswanath districts also experienced earthquakes on Sunday. However, there were no reports of damage or loss of life in the state due to the earthquake today.

The quake was also felt in some parts of western Arunachal Pradesh as well as eastern Bhutan, PTI reported. There is no immediate report of injuries to any person or damage to any property. The northeastern region and the Himalayan region fall under the seismically active zone. Hence, it experiences frequent earthquakes due to the movement of tectonic plates along the fault line.
