A 4.5 magnitude earthquake strikes Afghanistan

Kabul [Afghanistan]January 6 (ANI): An earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale struck Afghanistan on Monday, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said.

The National Center for Statistics indicated that the earthquake struck the country at 12:47 pm (Eastern Indian time).

According to the National Seismological Center, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 120 kilometers. It was recorded at latitude 36.55 north and longitude 67.86 east in Afghanistan.

Earlier on December 22, a 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan's Badakhshan region in the early hours of Sunday morning, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported.

The center indicated that the earthquake occurred in the early hours of the morning at 06:30 am Indian time (IST).

According to the National Seismological Center, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers. It was recorded at latitude 37.10 north and longitude 71.12 east in the Badakhshan region of Afghanistan.

The National Seismological Center reported that more than 6 earthquakes have struck the region in Afghanistan in the past 45 days.

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), Afghanistan remains highly vulnerable to natural disasters, including seasonal floods, landslides and earthquakes.
