On March 28, 2025, a strong earthquake of 7.7 set the size of Myanmar, with its center 10 miles northwest of the epic, near Mandalay. The earthquake occurred at 12:50 pm local time, and a tremor followed after 6.4 size after 12 minutes. The tremors caused severe damage to multiple cities, causing the collapse of buildings, bridges and other infrastructure. Myanmar has declared a state of emergency and appealed to international aid.
