The queen paid tribute to the “heroism, courage and sacrifice” of those killed in the D-Day landings. He was accompanied by 16 world leaders, including US President Donald Trump, in Portsmouth to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the largest combined land, air and sea operation in history. Mr Trump, on the last day of his visit to the UK, said D-Day was “perhaps the biggest fight ever”. Veterans of the Normandy landings also attended the liberation of western Europe.
