The San Jose Earthquakes vs LAFC match has been postponed

SAN JOSE – The MLS Cup snapshot became even more interesting for San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday after their Western game against Los Angeles Football Club was postponed following three positive cases of COVID-19 among the visiting team’s player group.

According to Earthquakes, Major League Soccer officials are assessing whether the match, scheduled for Sunday night, can be held before the regular season ends on November 8. With 1.29 points per game, San Jose may have a better chance to advance beyond the season by not playing LAFC, which like Seattle had already qualified to the playoffs.

One way to look at it is if LAFC, the Play of Real Salt Lake rivals (1.1 points per game) was canceled and Vancouver Whitecaps (1.14 points per gallon) would need to win both of the last two games so San Jose would jump if the earthquake lost in Seattle.

On Sunday, Real Salt Lake is set to face last-placed Los Angeles Galaxy, who has appointed former COEX coach Dominic Kinnear temporarily after Guillermo Barros Schelotto was sacked. RSL will end the season at home against second-placed Sporting Kansas City.

Vancouver, who plays third for Portland, on Sunday, ends the season at home against the Galaxy.
