Videos showing a lawyer still in severe turmoil during last week’s powerful Izmir earthquake have been circulating among social media users.

Ateli Ozon, a lawyer who lives in the Konak region, was struck by the earthquake while on a phone call in his office. He didn’t even hang up the phone call, and simply sat in his chair while things around him were collapsing.

He only got up after the earthquake had stopped, not to leave the office but to put a fallen water dispenser in place.

Last week, a powerful earthquake in the western Turkish province of Izmir killed 114 people.

In the aftermath of the 6.6-magnitude earthquake, authorities are investigating the shortcomings of buildings that collapsed in the disaster. Nine suspects were referred to court on Thursday in connection with the landslides, among them building contractors and engineers responsible for inspecting construction.
