School children in Croatia to prepare for disaster in earthquake simulator

Zagreb, January 26 (HINA) – Starting next year, children in Croatia will learn how to reduce disaster risk, as they will be helped by handbooks currently being written as well as a portable earthquake simulator, reports the daily Večernji List. Tuesday.

The project, “On the Road to Disaster Risk Reduction”, is part of initiatives to raise awareness and educate youth and children in primary schools.

It is implemented by the Civil Protection Directorate in partnership with the Agency for Education and Teacher Training. Worth 14.5 million Swedish krona, 12.3 million of which are grants from the European Union.

The Ministry of the Interior says that eight pilot schools have been selected for the project, in Zagreb, Auseec, Rijeka and Split, and that a group of experts is preparing a handbook for teachers and a handbook for pupils.

Handbook testing and public awareness campaign for animated films and promotional films are scheduled to begin in the next academic year in 2020.
